Mary Joyce O'Geary

On January 6th, 2025, Mary D. O'Geary passed away. She is survived by her sister Norma Sue Umphlett, her daughter, Mary Thayer, her granddaughters Dana Hansen and Callista Harrison. Also, by her grandsons Sebastian and Donovan O'Geary, as well as her great-grandsons Malichai and Zacharia O'Geary.

Mary devoted her life to serving others, whether it was through church leadership, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or her greatest and longest passion, the Red Cross. She taught, learned and inspired children, youth and adults alike, eventually establishing the Red Cross LTC- Leadership Training Camp.

She never let obstacles hold her back, forging ahead with strength and determination to inspire others to do the same. There will never be anyone quite like her in this world. She will be deeply missed and forever loved, leaving behind a legacy of service, teaching, and guiding others. Her unwavering dedication will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps—a legacy she would have wanted to endure.

Mary was laid to rest at Royal Palm North Cemetery, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life service will take place on March 28th at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 1498 Rosery Rd NE, Largo, FL 33770. The family kindly requests that everyone refrain from wearing black to the Celebration of Life, as they wish to honor Mary with a bright and uplifting atmosphere.
